What's the general consensus on the VIP option? Is it worth the money?

Yeah, if Moog took place on the Farm in June I'd spring for it otherwise I think there isn't a need

Thanks guys... I'll definitely think twice about getting them now (unless there is a great viewing area for VIP ticket holders). If I remember correctly there wasn't any sectioned off area of note for VIP'ers last year and there were only a few shows that were crazy packed/ hard to get a good spot for (Moby, Amon Tobin, and FlyLo). Also, getting in and out of venues wasn't a long wait either. Maybe if they were to announce some limited capacity shows or something otherwise take a pass.

im sure the front of twa was for vip. VIP sucked at forecastle, but good perk was getting into the fest fast, friday was awesome walking passed that big line and going straight in. makes me think twice when i remember how long i waited in the moogfest line to check in on friday. but prob not worth it for moog as it wasn't worth it for forecastle.

I picked up a VIP ticket on eBay at a steep discount the week before the show. Getting in fast and having solid seats especially in TWA was nice to have but not strictly necessary. It was great to be up high and front for FlyLo. Amon's set was too far back on the stage to be seen from the VIP seats (I was up front on the floor but could see the VIP section was empty due to line-of-sight issues). All things considered, I probably would've felt ripped off if I got it at face value.

$255 for two days doesn't seem very worth it, imo, unless they have some amazing new perks.

I keep going back and forth on this. $150 extra is a LOT if it really isn't a pain to get into venues, and good spots are easy to come by. But the idea of having a guaranteed good spot if there are any issues, is definitely tempting. Basically, I just don't want to be kicking myself for not getting it when I'm starring at the back of some giant in front of me during Squarepusher

As someone who went last year with a guest pass and kept going in and out of venues every other set, it was a bloody godsend to skip hundreds/thousands of people in line and not get searched. There's much less chaos, the staff are friendly, and the basement bar of the Orange Peel is a sweet deal. I don't think I could do Moogfest without priority entrance, I would've missed so many shows.

Well, the VIP merchandise was late (we did finally get it after 5pm yesterday). The letter that they give the VIPs to call if there are any problems did not contain a phone number. I see the VIP party is from 5pm to 7pm tomorrow, meaning we'll have to rush from the party to the first show. I have to see if this year's lounge (and the various beverages stocked there) make up for my current grumpiness. I loved my VIP experience in 2011 -- I'm not too happy with it in 2012.
Plus - my hotel room is next to a bunch of noisy pandas (and panda wannabes)

The lounge did make for a nice place to congregate between shows. It wasn't until midday through Saturday's schedule that we discovered the passage from the lounge to the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium.
The next door pandas overall were very respectful and quiet (thanks Nick - even if you didn't have to tell them to keep it quiet).
However, there were issues both nights with the Axis security staff and the ushers about checking VIP wristbands for access to the VIP seating sections. The effort was moderately better on Saturday vs Friday, but there was a major enforcement change regarding the railing and walkways in the VIP section. In 2011, there were no 'railbirds' allowed, but this year if you had a VIP wristband - you could get on the rail and obstruct the view of the seated VIPs. A confrontation over this issue erupted between myself and some doorag-wearing douchebag during the Orbital performance that left me in a sour mood for the remainder of the evening - as well as made the 2012 effort less enjoyable than the 2011 Moogfest - as well as made it questionable as to whether I would buy a VIP pass again or even bother to attend another Moogfest.
This year's VIP gathering had a better supply of beverages and pizza than last year. This year's museum location was not nearly as fun as last year's vintage video game arcade - but the Mellow Mushroom pizza and the endless Sam Adams beat out the sparse pizza and Shock Top from last year.
The sightlines were the same as last year in the arean and TWA - I'd rate the TWA the better venue since your view won't be obstructed by railbirds.

Plus you get the tshirt (that retails for $25) qnd the poster (that retails for $25).
The VIP entrance did prove a quick way in Friday (to cut the lines for both wristbands and entrance).
Saturday, we entered the Civic Center without an issue, but the rent-a-cops wouldn't let us down the ramp to get to the VIP Lounge - so we went back outside, came in the VIP entrance and walked right to the lounge (and pretty much had it to ourselves).
For those that got to the VIP Lounge early, Bacardi had some free earplugs from Ear Peace to ensure we left with our hearing intact (although I brought my own after having a painful experience with last year's Tim Hecker performance).
Additionally, Grooveshark was giving away sunglasses, koozies, lighters, rolling papers, bag. A local craft brewer also had some bottle openers.
And there was a spread of appetizers in the lounge with hummus, dill dip, chips, cherry tomatos, grapes, and lots of candy.

Thanks for that write up. I thought there was a new VIP section in the arena on the floor. Sounds like that changed? Sorry to hear about the railbirds. That would have definitely put me in a sour mood too. In any case, I'm really hoping to go next year, and that gives me an idea on the value of VIP. Much appreciated.

There was a VIP floor section at Stage Left. I never saw anyone in it during Divine Fits, Orbital, Shplongle, or Pantha du Prince. The gf says no one was in the section during Primus and Santigold. The section only saw 1 to 3 Axis security personnel during every show that I saw in the arena.

The VIP section on the arena floor was pretty useless because it was off to the left and the crowd for any show i saw never got so packed that it would have been an advantaged sightline. I never used the VIP seats at the area at the top. The VIP at TWA was pretty nice, especially when shows went to capacity and you could use the back stair entrance straight from the VIP Lounge up to the TWA Balcony without anyone questioning you. And the seats were fantastic for viewing the TWA stage. I never went to the Orange Peel so Im not sure how the VIP was there.
imo the VIP lounge was amazing. free massages (with charity donation), food, candy, all you can drink vitamin water, and all you can drink beer/bacardi drinks/moonshine.
with the free tshirt and poster ($50 value) which i would have gouth anyways, that only makes the difference from a GA to VIP ticket for me about $70. And I definitely drank more than $70 worth of alcohol in teh VIP lounge considering the beers were $6 at the vendors. That pretty much makes all the other percs free for me.
