As a former DJ/director, I would be ashamed if I didn't tell you all about this - the college station at the University of Kentucky has been doing an awesome music festival in Lexington for the last 4 years, and this year's initial lineup has been announced. Lexington is a great sleepy little college town, all the venues are nice, tickets are usually cheap (~$50) and the lineup is going to have a lot more bands added to it in the coming months.
